On August 3, the first reviews appeared for Prey, a film that became a prequel to all parts of the Predator. It currently has a score of 69 on Metacritic based on 22 reviews from film critics. For comparison, the last picture about an extraterrestrial hunter, which was released in 2018, has only 48 points.
“Production” is praised for the dynamics, tension, the game of the main character, horror aspects and cruelty – the picture fully justifies the “adult” rating, the first viewers noted. Below are a few reviews.
The only real downside to The Prey is the streaming format it will be released in. It’s no exaggeration to say that this movie needs to be seen on as big a screen as possible, if only to fully appreciate one of the best action movies of the year, not to mention one of the best Predator movies since the first one.
Thanks to the powerful performance of rookie Amber Midthunder, this Predator is full of surprises, and this makes his alien monster really scary.
The Prey is unarguably the best Predator since the original. The film properly pays homage to John McTiernan’s 1987 masterpiece – with cigars and direct quotes that will leave fans hooting – while adding indigenous representation with real cultural power.
The Prey proves that, contrary to all expectations, there is still life in the franchise, not to mention the exciting new main character in Amber Midthunder.
Dan Trachtenberg’s booty never gives up. The film is filled with the gore and tension of the Predator franchise, but true star Amber Midthunder is its strongest point.
Recall that the action of “Prey” takes place 300 years before the events of the first film in the series. The tape tells the story of a young Naru woman, an experienced warrior and protector of the Comanche tribe. She came face to face with one of the first Predators to land on Earth.
