There was sex in the USSR: 13 Soviet films with very explicit scenes

1. Earth

  • USSR, 1930.
  • Drama.
  • Duration: 75 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.3.
Frame from the film “Earth”

Collectivization begins in a small Ukrainian village. Activists invite residents to collective farms, and then the tractor separates public plots from private ones. All this leads to tragic consequences.

Few people expect to see a 1930 silent film on the list of movies with explicit scenes. But Alexander Dovzhenko dared to completely undress the heroine Elena Maksimova in the frame. According to the plot, after the death of a Komsomol member, his wife, naked, rushes around the hut in despair. And many angles at the same time look bold even today.

According to rumors, Stalin himself liked the game of Maximova in this film. He advised the director to shoot the actress more often. True, a couple of days after that, the film was banned for “wrong interpretation of collectivization.”

2. Andrey Rublev

  • USSR, 1966.
  • Drama, historical.
  • Duration: 175 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8.1.
Shot from the film “Andrey Rublev”

The film is dedicated to the spiritual path and activities of the famous icon painter Andrei Rublev. The picture consists of separate, almost unrelated short stories telling about his life.

The work of Andrei Tarkovsky is already very bold in its idea: at the time when Khrushchev promised to “show the last priest on TV”, he made a film about the icon painter. In addition, the director included a scene of the celebration of the night of Ivan Kupala, in which dozens of young people run completely naked and seduce each other. At one point, a naked girl passionately kisses the tied Andrei Rublev.

Of course, this film did not get a wide release. The public was able to see the picture only in 1987.

3. Diamond arm

  • USSR, 1968.
  • Comedy.
  • Duration: 94 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8.5.
Shot from the film “The Diamond Arm”

Semyon Semyonovich Gorbunkov goes on a foreign cruise on the liner “Mikhail Svetlov”. In Istanbul, smugglers mistakenly sew jewels into his plaster. And now they are hunting for their goods, and the police are tracking down the bandits themselves.

The scene where the heroine of Svetlana Svetlichnaya seduces Gorbunkov to the song “Help Me” has become a real legend. Of course, today it only makes the audience laugh. But at the time of the film’s release, the actress’s skimpy swimsuit, which then flew off boldly, seemed something very obscene.

When the picture got to television, the intimate scene was cut from it. According to rumors, Brezhnev himself saved the situation. He really liked the blond beauty, and he demanded to return the heroine to the film.

4. … And the dawns here are quiet

  • USSR, 1972.
  • Drama, military, historical.
  • Duration: 160 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8.2.
Shot from the film “… And the Dawns Here Are Quiet”

A group of volunteer girls comes under commandant Fedot Vlasov. Soon one of them discovers German saboteurs in the forest.

In this case, a frank scene, namely washing girls in a bath, is fully justified in terms of plot and emotions. Director Stanislav Rostotsky showed very young heroines admiring each other’s beauty. So he emphasized even more all the horror of the war , in which even innocent girls are drawn.

Of course, the artistic council did everything in its power to force the director to remove provocative shots. But Rostotsky flatly refused, believing that they carry a very important emotional burden, and even threatened to refuse authorship. As a result, the half-cut scene was still left.

5. Autumn

  • USSR, 1974.
  • Melodrama.
  • Duration: 93 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.1.
Shot from the film “Autumn”

Ilya and Sasha were once in love with each other. Having met through the years, they realize that the feelings still have not faded away. The marriage of both is falling apart, and therefore the lovers leave for a week in the village.

In this film, the theme itself looks provocative. The heroes deceive their spouses and run away from everyone to be alone. The bed scene completes everything.

By now, she is quite chaste, only in one moment do they show the breasts of the actress. However, in the mid-1970s, due to frankness, the picture was released to a very limited distribution, and director Andrei Smirnov was then not allowed to shoot for almost five years.

6. Romance of lovers

  • USSR, 1974.
  • Drama, melodrama, musical.
  • Duration: 135 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.1.
Shot from the film “Romance of Lovers”

Sergey and Tatyana love each other. However, the young man is taken into the army, and then the girl receives a letter about the death of her fiancé. Later it turns out that Sergei is alive.

Andrei Konchalovsky’s painting is staged metaphorically: the characters speak in blank verse, and sometimes even sing. But all this is adjacent to realism.

The director shows actress Elena Koreneva bathing, and then running along the beach in one shirt over her naked body. Later, the heroine completely undresses when she washes in the shower, listening to her mother’s instructions.

7. Tabor goes to the sky

  • USSR, 1976.
  • Drama, melodrama, musical.
  • Duration: 101 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.5.
Frame from the film “The camp goes to the sky”

Horse thief Loyko Zobar met Rada when he was wounded. The girl helped him heal, and the heroes fell in love with each other. But each of them believes that family life will interfere with freedom.

In this picture, even the sex scene is staged with gypsy flavor and emotions. Heroes in each other’s arms roll from the shore into the river. And then Rada quickly takes off her shirt and for a very long time – a lot of fluffy skirts. Although the very moment of intimacy is conveyed allegorically here.

Filming this scene almost turned into a tragedy. Having fallen into the river, the actress Svetlana Toma fell into the depths, her skirts got wet, and she almost drowned. In addition, the water was very cold: the artist was smeared with goose fat, and so that steam would not come out of her mouth, she kept ice under her tongue. As a result, the film, of course, almost got banned. Saved by an official who was friends with the director.

8. Armed and very dangerous

  • USSR, 1978.
  • Western.
  • Duration: 99 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6.0.
Shot from the film “Armed and very dangerous”

Before his death, Judge Fleming gives the gold digger Gabriel Conroy a mysterious map. Thanks to her, the hero finds oil. From that moment on, his life changes.

Director Vladimir Vainshtok managed to shoot an excellent example of a western genre alien to the USSR. Not without a bed scene with a fatal beauty. In fact, Lyudmila Senchina and her on-screen partner Leonid Bronevoy were very shy about playing this moment. The scene with the exposure of the chest did come out by accident: the actor just awkwardly moved his hand.

Senchina instantly became the sex symbol of Soviet cinema. Although the conservative part of the public was indignant and even demanded that the party ban the showing of the “libertine”.

9. Siberiada

  • USSR, 1978.
  • Drama, melodrama, historical.
  • Duration: 275 minutes.
  • IMDb: 8.0.
Shot from the film “Siberiada”

The plot of the film is dedicated to the Ustyuzhanin and Solomin families, who live in a Siberian village. Their lives are closely intertwined for several decades.

And again a bold project by Andrei Konchalovsky. This time he showed several explicit scenes with different actresses at once. In addition to Elena Koreneva, who had already starred in his “Romance of the Lovers”, Natalya Andreichenko and even Lyudmila Gurchenko were naked in the frame.

The scene with the latter was unexpected for the actress herself, and the director promised her that the footage would only be included in the foreign version. And in moments where they did not show their faces, instead of Gurchenko, an understudy starred. She even made fun of Nikita Mikhalkov, who “seduced” her, by asking the name of the film.

10. Crew

  • USSR, 1979.
  • Drama, thriller.
  • Duration: 135 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.5.
Shot from the film “Crew”

Immediately after the passenger plane lands at the airport, an earthquake begins. The crew lifts the car into the air, but the damage is too severe. Now the team needs to somehow bring the plane to a safe place and land.

Alexander Mitta directed the first Soviet disaster film . But many people remember this picture as a bed scene between the heroes of Leonid Filatov and Alexandra Yakovleva. We must pay tribute to the authors, they added artistry to the frame, showing part of the action through reflections. This made the moment more sensual and graceful.

Interestingly, the scene was given to Filatov much harder than his partner. The actor even refused to take off his jeans and lay dressed under the covers. Of course, in the end, the most explicit shots with Yakovleva were cut out. But the final version turned out to be provocative for the late 70s.

11. Winter cherry

  • USSR, 1985.
  • Drama, melodrama.
  • Duration: 91 minutes.
  • IMDb: 6.9.
Frame from the film “Winter Cherry”

Olga single-handedly raises her son Anton. She has an affair with Vadim, but he is married and does not dare to leave his family. Suddenly, the heroine meets the imposing Herbert, and feelings flare up between them.

Since the mid-80s, more bold themes and explicit scenes began to appear in Soviet cinema. In Winter Cherry, Elena Safonova is shown naked already in the first minutes, when the heroine says goodbye to her lover. But most of all, the audience remembered the moment when she comes completely naked to the window of the house by the lake.

This scene was later copied dozens of times in Russian cinema . The combination of a naked body and soft light from the window looks very good.

12. Little Vera

  • USSR, 1988.
  • Drama, melodrama.
  • Duration: 135 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.0.
Frame from the film “Little Vera”

The girl Vera from the seaside town meets charming Sergey at the disco. He is a famous womanizer, but he really falls in love with a new acquaintance. But Vera’s family does not accept the young man.

This film became a real symbol of emancipation in the late USSR. The picture very harshly shows the clash of the old and the new time and reflects the shortcomings of the provincial society. But the sex scene between Vera and Sergey made a much bigger hype. Intimacy has never been shown so frankly and naturalistically in Soviet cinema.

Natalya Negoda, who had previously starred in a couple of small roles, repeatedly appeared in the nude frame. And, of course, she turned into a real sex symbol of the late 80s.

13. Intergirl

  • USSR, Sweden, 1989.
  • Drama, melodrama.
  • Duration: 151 minutes.
  • IMDb: 7.1.
Shot from the film “Intergirl”

Young nurse Tanya Zaitseva in her spare time provides intimate services to wealthy foreigners for hard currency. She dreams of getting married and seems to get such an opportunity. But the problems are only getting bigger.

“Intergirl” is one of the symbols of perestroika, which marked the final decline of censorship in cinema. The picture was not filmed with state money, and therefore Pyotr Todorovsky was able to film the story of Vladimir Kunin very harshly and straightforwardly.

Before that, no one dared to make the main character of the picture a worker in the sphere of intimate services and show what they preferred to keep silent about in the USSR. Of course, there were some explicit scenes of sex and even violence.

Which of the following films have you watched? Did the explicit scenes surprise you, or did it seem quite decent what was happening?
