It is no longer possible to pay with UnionPay cards of foreign banks at outlets with terminals of banks that are under the sanctions of Western countries. RBC writes about it.
Currently under such sanctions are: Sberbank, VTB, Promsvyazbank, Alfa-Bank, Sovcombank, Otkritie, Gazprombank, Rosselkhozbank and some other banks.
Russian UnionPay customers whose cards are issued in Russia will not be affected by these changes. They will mainly affect tourists from China and residents of Asian countries who come for work.
According to one of the sources, UnionPay is introducing such measures out of fear of secondary sanctions. Representatives of the payment system do not comment on this situation.
