The Handmaid's Tale has been renewed for a sixth season – it will be its last

Hulu has renewed the Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale for a sixth and final season. This was announced ahead of the premiere of the fifth season, which starts on September 14.

In parallel with the filming of the finale, a new series, The Testaments, is being actively developed, the events of which unfold 17 years after the events of the original show. It is also based on a novel by Canadian writer Margaret Atwood.

In The Testaments, the story of the rise, existence, and end of Gilead is told by three women, one of whom is Aunt Lydia, already known from The Handmaid’s Tale, the second is Agnes, a young woman from Gilead, and the third is Daisy, a girl from Canada.

The Handmaid’s Tale has been out since 2017 on Hulu, which is owned by Disney. In 2021, the fourth season was released, which turned into a dark slasher.
